Talk about luxury SUV segment and Volvo is not a brand unheard of! Models from this Swiss carmaker offer every luxury equipment you have ever heard of and a lot more. Marking a more greener footprint, Volvo has introduced their SUV, the XC90 T8 Twin Engine on September 14, 2016 priced at Rs 1.25 Crore, ex-showroom, Delhi
Differences over the XC90? In terms of the exteriors, there is no change in the design whatsoever. However, take a closer look and one would notice the plug-in socket (covered of course) on the front left fender and a T8 badging on the boot. The inside, however, is a different story. The Excellence variant of the XC90 T8 Twin Engine is equipped with four seats, that's right, instead of a rear bench. Each occupant of the car gets their own heated, reclinable seats with their personal climate control. The rear centre of this behemoth is occupied by a centre console tailor-made for the rear passengers with a beverage cooler and an 'Excellence Console' that customises the rear seat environment with regards to air-conditioning temperature, seat heating level, massage, recline, temperature of the beverage and the list goes on.
At the occasion, Tom von Bonsdorff, Managing Director, Volvo India, said “The XC90 T8 Excellence sets industry benchmark for an environment-friendly efficiency and emissions while enveloping customers in a first class Swedish luxury. It is not only a segment first, but India's first plug-in hybrid SUV and we see a lot of interest from our affluent customers who prefer experience 'responsible' luxury.”
What's more on the inside? Up front, the driver everything that is present in the XC90. A driver-oriented centre console, different drive modes for different terrains, a 'Sensus' infotainment system that controls the AC temperature, Bluetooth connectivity, navigation – basically everything that the driver would need. What is even more alluring about the interior is the Bower & Wilkins sound system that has 19 speakers, an amplifier to minimise distortions and the end result is impeccable 1400W of flawless Sweden music.
Coming to the powertrain, the XC90 T8 Twin Engine comes with a 2.0-litre, turbocharged diesel engine that is coupled to an electric motor. What this translates to is a massive 407hp of max power and 640Nm of peak torque – this makes it the most powerful Volvo in India till date. And if all that power once sent to all wheels via an 8-speed Geartronic automatic transmission would result in the SUV not being frugal, the official India website claims a figure of a staggering 47.6 kmpl. Enough said! We rest our case.
